QUILTING || DOE DREAMING

I've been doe dreaming....

Doe by Carolyn Friedlander for @robertkaufman @cfriedlander /// VeryShannon.com

Doe by Carolyn Friedlander for @robertkaufman @cfriedlander /// VeryShannon.com

I'm completely and utterly in love with the insanely talented Carolyn Friedlander's newest fabric collection "Doe" (read more on her blog here) for Robert Kaufman. As soon as I saw sneak peeks of this line I knew I had to have it! Very rarely do I ever splurge and order FQ's of an entire line of fabric. But this was a special treat for me. It wasn't easy to get either. This line sold out fast!

I've been spending the last few days sitting here just staring at all of it. I'm so inspired by the organic simplicity of the patterns and how they just speak to my brain...lol. I tend to lean towards graphic, geometric and architectural based designs. They are always my faves. And Doe is right in my happy place. A gorgeous palette featuring creams, whites, blacks, blue tones, a hit of orange and golds. Can we say perfection? Like I said....I love it. I need it all over my house.

First up is going to be a new quilt.

It's been wayyyy too long since I made a quilt. I've got a free quilt pattern in the works (for the girls beds) that's been on the go since last year that I hope to get done this year (yes, they take me forever...lol) but the quilt from Doe twill be for the hubs and I. I cannot wait!

What pattern am I going to use?

I'm still pondering this. I know the vibe I'm going for but at the same time I haven't found "the one" online yet. I may end up making one up for this one too. But we'll see. I love supporting other designers and using their patterns too so I'll be on the hunt for "the" one. I also need to get backing still. I wanted to see the whole line in person before I chose a print from the line for the backing. Plus I wanted to snag some of the wide width yardage for that. You can follow my "MAKE // QUILTING & PATCHWORK" pinterest board below to see what I'm crushing on.

If I wasn't dying to make a quilt I would be whipping up Carolyn's Nest Egg Tote Pattern. I still might do it when I'm done. I love the shape of this!

I can't wait to dive into this line and get making. Anyone else "doe" dreaming? What print is your fave? Any quilt patterns you're loving right now that Doe would work great for?

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

One of my favorite go-to handmade gifts are coasters. Everyone loves a pretty coaster.

I think they can brighten up a table or a room and bring a smile to your face when reaching for your drink. And when you think how many times a day we use a coaster and pick up and put down a drink that equates to a lot of smiles. The more people smile, the more the world is a happier place. Smiling is healthy and feels good. Just like sewing.

The best thing about making handmade coasters is the freedom. It’s a no pressure, no stress kind of project that is great for using scraps and bits of your favorite leftovers from your stash! You can’t go wrong with that! You can practice new techniques or perfect old ones, try out a new stitch on your machine, or go bold/simple playing with solids!

Been scared to start quilting but dying to try? This is a great way to jump in and get your toes wet! Whichever way you choose to make them it’s up to you! So whip up the coaster tutorials below as is or use them as a jumping off point to add your own flair and personality! Just remember to smile and have fun with them!

COASTER #1 & #2

You will need the following pieces to make two coasters:
2 fronts - piece A, 2 backs - piece B, 1 batting - piece C

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

DIRECTIONS

Coaster #1 and #2 are made the same:

Press all fabrics before cutting.

STEP ONE /// ASSEMBLING YOUR COASTERS

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

With your front (piece A) and back (piece B) right sides facing each other, lay down your batting on top. You will have a stack that is back, front and then batting. Pin your coaster along the edges. *See diagram above.

Sew along all 4 edges of your coaster with a 1/4" seam allowance making sure to leave a 2-3" opening to turn your coaster right side through.

STEP TWO /// QUILTING & FINISHING YOUR COASTERS

Trim your corners close to the sewing line but not too close to cut through your stitching. Turn coaster right side out. Make sure your corners are all nicely out and pointed. Press your coaster.

Get ready to quilt! Yay! This is where you can get creative with your coasters! Feel free to simply sew a line around the entire coaster close to the edge or make 3! Do shapes, a pattern or a design!

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

COASTER #1 QUILTING
I chose to play up on the triangles of the fabric of Coaster #1. I first stitched around the border of the coaster 3 times (close to each other). I then stitched a triangle shape on the center of the coaster and then repeated this triangle inside and outside of it with my sewing machine. If you are nervous about winging the triangle, simply draw all your triangles with a removable fabric marker and stitch over your design. *See diagram above.

COASTER #2 QUILTING
On Coaster #2 I played up the chevron zig-zag repeat the pattern makes on my fabric. I first stitched a simple border around the coaster. I then followed the line of the pattern in the center of the coaster. next I stitched a line on either side of this line. I then repeated this pattern moving over 3/4" from where the last one was stitched. Repeat this design until your coaster is full. If you don't have fabric with a chevron design, simply draw one on your coaster with a removable fabric marker and sew over it - easy and fun! *See diagram above.

Press your coasters once again.

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial Helpful Tip: Once you master the coasters above have some fun with scraps and shapes! You can piece together your front and backs or use different quilt block techniques too! The tutorials for Coaster #3 and #4 are a fun introduction into piecing your fabric!

COASTER #3

You will need the following pieces of fabric:
2 pieces for front - piece A & B, 1 piece for the back - piece C, 1 piece batting - piece D

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

DIRECTIONS

Press all fabrics before cutting.

STEP ONE /// ASSEMBLING YOUR COASTERS

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

With pieces A and B right sides facing each other sew with a 1/4" seam allowance along one edge. Trim your seam allowance and press your seam towards the darker fabric.

Place piece C and your A/B right sides facing each other and sew with a 1/4" seam allowance. Trim your seam allowance and press your seam towards the darker fabric.

You can choose to topstitch along your seams here or leave unsewn.

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

With your front and back right side facing each other, lay down your batting on top. You will have a stack that is back, front and then batting. Pin your coaster along the edges. *See diagram above.

Sew along all 4 edges of your coaster with a 1/4" seam allowance making sure to leave a 2-3" opening to turn your coaster right side through.

STEP TWO /// QUILTING AND FINISHING YOUR COASTERS

Trim your corners close to the sewing line but not too close to cut through your stitching. Turn coaster right side out. Make sure your corners are all nicely out and pointed. Press your coaster.

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

Quilt in desired pattern. I chose to do 1 simple border around the coaster close to the edge. I then did 2 lines down the center of where my front 2 pieces were sewn together. I also did a pairing of 2 lines close to the side edges of the coaster stitching border you already sewed. Simple horizontal pairings of lines to play up with the piecing are lots of fun! *See diagram above.

Press your coaster once again.

COASTER #4

You will need the following pieces of fabric:
3 pieces for front - piece A, B & C, 3 pieces for back - piece D, E & F, 1 piece batting - piece G

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

DIRECTIONS

Press all fabrics before cutting.

STEP ONE /// ASSEMBLING YOUR COASTERS

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial
With piece A and B right sides facing each other, sew with a 1/4" seam allowance along one edge. Next sew piece C to piece B. Trim your seam allowances and press your seams towards the darker fabric.

Repeat the steps above, this time using pieces D, E & F. Again, trim your seam allowance and press your seams towards the darker fabric.

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

With your front and backs right sides facing each other, lay down your batting on top.

Quilted Coasters Tutorial ||| VeryShannon.com #coaster #quilted #sewing #tutorial

Quilt in desired pattern. I quilted mine to play up on the 3 pieces we stitched together and replicated a grid pattern. I did a simple border around the whole square and then topstitched close to my 2 seam lines for the front and back on both sides of the center piece of the coaster. I then did 3 sets comprised of 3 stitch lines (close together) going horizontally down the coaster as well to form a grid like design. Press your coaster again. *See diagram above.

Helpful Tip: Once you are done all your coasters, bundle them up all pretty and give them as a lovely gift or treat yourself! These coasters make a great starter project to ease into quilting and practice your sewing skills!

KNITTING || IT'S TIME FOR STASH MAINTENANCE!

It's a new year and it's time to update & organize our online stashes ladies!

Every start of a new year I try to go through my stash, clean it up and properly record everything on Ravelry. I try really hard each year to be pretty minimal with my stash. I usually only purchase new yarn and fabric when I have certain projects & new designs already allotted for them. I don't have a lot of space to store my yarn and fabric so being minimal is key. I also tend to get overwhelmed if it gets too large and sometimes finding myself forgetting about skeins I previously adored. It also helps keep my budget for yarn/fabric buying down too.

I was photographing some of my newest babies to add to my Ravelry stash and thought it would be fun to document them on the blog too. The yarns are so pretty that I couldn't just keep the pics in my boring ol'stash on ravelry. Plus I figured it would be a fun way to get you all to update yours as well and do some serious stash maintenance. That and I love seeing what yarn you guys have added to your stashes lately too! It's a great way to get inspired and also find new yarns to try.

Nice and Knit DK in colorways (left to right) Harpoon, Oyster, Lobster Pot, Dockside. Blue shown in middle pic is Canal.

Nice and Knit DK in colorways (left to right) Harpoon, Oyster, Lobster Pot, Dockside. Blue shown in middle pic is Canal.

The latest lovelies I've added to my stash are the gorgeous skeins from Nice and Knit (all DK) shown above,Hazel Knits new Worsted weight Cadence shown in colorway Laguna which is also scrumptious. Then my newest obsession is Woolfolk. Words cannot describe this gorgeous squishy yarn! I've been obsessing over it for a while and finally treated myself to some. I have not regretted it. It's amazing. I picked up some FAR in colorways 2, 5 & 9 and some Tynd in colorway 9. Can we say DROOL! I also have been preciously hoarding some of the fab Julie Asselin Leizu DK (she's Canadian!) in colorways Cove and Coraline.

It feels good to get organized and start fresh for the new year! I spent a lot of time cleaning and organizing my office and it's getting there. I hope to share some pics in the next few weeks...finally :) I think I've been promising to show my workspace for 4+ years..lol. Now that I have a "room" for my work I hope to be able to show progress shots as I slowly make it my own. I also plan on going through my WIP's and either finishing or frogging them. Some projects I've had sitting for 3 years! EEEK! It's time to cleanse the palette. Anyone else need to take care of their WIP's? This is a great time to do it! Sit down, photograph and document your stash on Ravelry and then clean up your projects too! You won't regret it!

Here's some pics of my latest yarn crushes. Make sure to comment below what yarns you're crushing on and have recently added to your stash! I love hearing about it!

CREATIVITY || GILMORE GIRLS FREE COFFEE QUOTE PRINTABLE

I love coffee and I love Gilmore Girls.

Put the two together and you have one of my favorite quotes. This is one is me in a nutshell. I need coffee to survive. Seriously. I just don't function without coffee. You all know I've been loving watching Gilmore Girls all over again now that it's on Netflix here in Canada and I've been binge watching for weeks. I have to confess it has upped my caffeine intake. Seeing them talk about coffee, drink coffee and talk about coffee more just makes me want more coffee.

Since we moved into our first house this past summer I've been slowly curating things for my new office. Once I heard Lorelai speak these lines (Season 4, Episode 20) I knew I needed it in a printable form so I could hang that bad boy up in my office. It makes me smile. I thought you all may like it too. So I've created a free printable for you (yay!) to sport too! Download your free copy at the bottom of the post.

I've had to slow down my GG watching since I'm in Season 5 now. I don't want it to end. I know I'm going to bawl like a baby. I know some of you will too when you reach the end. I may just start watching them all over again, you know....just to see what I missed for the 3rd time round and to freak my hubby out (he doesn't get my GG obsession). There can never be enough GG's in my opinion.

Alrighty....who else is a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan? Do you love Luke as much as I do (shhh...don't tell my hubby)? Are you a serious coffee addict? Enjoy the printable and come chat! I've missed you all over the xmas break! Pour yourself...you guessed it....a cup of coffee and let's catch up!

Books on the Table || Book Reviews of Make it Mighty Ugly, Graphic Knits, Mollie Makes Embroidery and Sockupied on VeryShannon.com.

It's been a while since we've done a Books on the Table and I thought it was the perfect time to do another one!

You all know how much of a book lover I am. Sometimes I have way too many fab books to chat about to give them each their own post. When that happens I put together our fun "Books on the Table" post. I've always got new (and old) books everywhere around the house. They are in the dining room, the living room, my bedroom...all over my office...in my purse...they are everywhere. I love reading and relish in sharing books that I am enjoying. I worked for years in book stores and sometimes miss being surrounded by books that fill me with endless possibilities.

Right now, on my table I've got a lovely mix of creative titles! Creativity, embroidery, knitting and socks! Sounds fun right? You bet! Keep reading below and I'll give you the inside scoop on each title. These are all great gift books for that creative maker in your life too! Or, if you're like me, they make lovely "treat yourself" pressies too! One can never have too many fabulous books!

Books on the Table || Book Reviews of Make it Mighty Ugly, Graphic Knits, Mollie Makes Embroidery and Sockupied on VeryShannon.com.

Read below then let me know what books are on your table in the comments! I love hearing what other people are reading too!

/// MAKE IT MIGHTY UGLY
You guys, this book is soooo good. I've been reading and re-reading it. I pick up something new each time. It's a must have for anyone wanting to up their creative game or just learn how to be more creative on a regular basis. Make It Mighty Ugly: Exercise & Advice for Getting Creative Even When it Ain't Pretty by Kim Piper Werker is one of those books that I know I will be reaching for on a regular basis, year and after year. It's informative, funny, helpful and inspiring. I highly recommend it! The illustrations in Make it Mighty Ugly are as equally as fabulous as the book is too. So get reading and get "kick-starting your creativity through inspiring essays, exercises, and tips, plus sage advice from all over the creative spectrum".

///MOLLIE MAKES EMBROIDERY
I don't chat about embroidery much on the blog but I do enjoy it! I usually try to do 1 - 2 projects a year and always have fun. I find myself wishing I had more time to spend on embroidery projects and hope to do that in the next few years as I really get my girls involved in sewing. I think it would be fun to sit down with both of them and all work on embroidery! Mollie Makes Embroidery is filled with adorable stitched projects! There's something in there for everyone! I was really smitten with 2-3 of them and hope to get one made up soon. I really enjoyed the tips & tricks section of this book. Since I don't do embroidery regularly I always need a refresher and I really liked this part of the book. Overall this is a great collection of a variety of projects that is put together in a lovely and inspiring book.

/// GRAPHIC KNITS
I loooooovvvee texture and graphic details in knitwear. I myself design with them in mind and am constantly inspired by them. When I heard Alexis Winslow was releasing Graphic Knits I knew it was a must have for me. Graphic Knits includes 20 designs in bold, beautiful color! There are some awesome projects in here ranging from accessories to garments! Each project is true to Alexis's style and is accompanied by great photos of all the unique details her patterns feature! If you love color, graphic details and fun patterns this is a good book for you.

/// SOCKUPIED
Oh man, sock knitting is soooo good! I'm always embarrassed in a way to admit that I didn't start knitting socks until about 2 years ago. I know....it's sad but what can I say, they just weren't my thing. But now that I've jumped in I'm fully hooked! I've really been enjoying knitting and wearing handmade socks. Sockupied: 20 Knit Projects to Satisfy your Sock Obsession has been helping me with my own fledgling sock obsession! This wonderful collection of sock patterns edited by Anne Merrow is filled with 20 projects from the popular eMag of the same name. They are specially chosen from the first 10 issues by Anne Morrow. Sockupied has toe up up and top down construction patterns as well as patterns for beginners as well as socks featuring lace, cables and colorwork. If you are a sock knitter you'll enjoy this one!

SEWING || LINDEN SWEATSHIRT

Everyone needs their own cozy, warm, snuggly, fave go to sweatshirt. I just made my new fave!

Have you seen the Linden Sweatshirt pattern by Grainline yet? As soon as the talented Jen released it I grabbed a copy. I then set out on a mission to find some seriously cozy sweater knit fabric. Not an easy feat where I live. I managed to luck out and get some at one of our local fabric shops - The Cloth Castle. Bonus - there was a sale! Woot woot! I grabbed this super thick, warm and soft fabric for Linden as well as a thinner one (that I'll show ya later) to whip up another one in. The color of this fabric is so perfectly neutral. It's like that shade of Cascade 220 that you make a gazillion and one things out of. It's grey, but beige too and pretty much goes with everything.

Linden is a sweatshirt that is meant to be lived in. I wear this bad boy around the house, out of the house, in bed - you name it - I've now worn it. In fact I've had this made for a few weeks but haven't been able to photograph it because it's always being worn. Blogger problems right? lol! It's just one of those cuts that is flattering. Aka - skims over the roly bits. I love the raglan cut for this type of sweatshirt and I really like the ease of it. Grainline's patterns are stylish and modern and easy to follow. The instructions are clear and concise and this took me no time at all to sew up. I used my serger for pretty much everything and that speeds things up tons.

My Linden Sweatshirt has come in so handy lately what with snow and tons of rain around here. Due to the horrid weather we've been having lately you get my tree lit photographs. That's what happens when you have absolutely no natural light and you gotta work with what you got :) I really wanted to blog about this sweater so you get another photoshoot of me in my "real life" element. My fave leggings, wooly socks, my go to mug & basket (from Tolt Yarn & Wool of course). I like to keep it real around here every so often. Bloggers are real people and sometimes, life just doesn't go along with our lighting and photography demands. So you work with what ya got.

I'm working with our new christmas tree in our first home for our first christmas in it! It's so cozy around here I find it hard to want to go out most days. I love this place and putting a christmas tree up just puts it over the top for me when it comes to cozy factor. Add in copious amounts of Gilmore Girls, Full House, yummy coffee and I'm all set. If anyone's looking for me you know where to find me....in my Linden, curled up on the couch with my kiddos, with my favorite quilt, my knitting and some fun tv with the fireplace roaring and the xmas tree twinkling in the background. Bliss.

I highly recommend whipping yourself up a Linden Sweatshirt for this holiday season.

I mean what better to wear relaxing, laughing and snuggling with loved ones in over Christmas break? I know I'll be in mine! I hope to make my 2nd one before xmas so I have 2 to wear. Now that I've made one I'd like to try one with a longer length...I'm going for maybe an extra 1-2 inches. If you pop over to the Grainline blog you can see some of the mods Jen's made. There are some great posts on Linden.

**And just as a funny bonus if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen the other week a pretty funny predicament. I was meeting up with the girls for some knitting at a nearby Starbucks (and we swear we never discussed it beforehand) Jane and I showed up in literally the same outfit! Only difference was her sweatshirt is bought and mine was handmade (the Linden). Ummm...can we say great minds think alike? No wonder we're best friends...lol. We both have our Tolt Bags on, white cowls, same exact jeans, our blundstones...etc...I'm still laughing. Heck the staff at Starbucks was even making fun of us!

GIVEAWAY || YOTH YARNS REVIEW & GIVEAWAY!

YOTH Yarns Review & Giveaway on VeryShannon.com!

Last spring I fell head over heels for YOTH Yarns. You know... that kind of yarn love where you know the minute you see it that you must have it.

Since then I've been anxiously awaiting the time when I could share about the fabulousness of this "to dye" for yarn company on the blog! I had the lovely chance to meet Veronika, one of the co-owners of YOTH Yarns, at our stop to visit Tolt Yarn & Wool in Carnation, WA during Vogue Knitting. I already knew Veronika was talented and sweet (have you read her blog Yarn on the House?) but when I spotted her brand spanking new yarn I knew I was hooked. They've got squish factor, are great for texture, the colors are your new fave go to's and they are just plain awesome to knit with! My friends and I have all been coveting our lovely skeins and I have no doubt in my mind that YOTH Yarns is going to go far and do big things.

YOTH Yarns Review & Giveaway on VeryShannon.com!

// What are the YOTH Yarns? YOTH Yarns are available in two sizes in a lovely MCN blend: DK weight, aptly called Big Sister, and fingering weight, called....you guessed it....Little Brother. The yarns are named after Veronika and her business partner and brother Daniel. I love their story and I love that it's a family business. You can read more about Veronika and Daniel on their About Page HERE.

// What is the goal of YOTH Yarns? Veronika and Daniel created YOTH Yarns to bring sophisticate, unisex colors to the market that they believe not only have a special place in their hearts, but are what is missing out there. They are hard at work creating 4 color palettes. Their first one is the Raw Palette. You can find it for sale online at yothyarns.com and in their two exclusive flagship stores: Tolt Yarn & Wool in Carnation, WA and Baaad Anna's in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I feel so lucky to have some delicious YOTH Yarns in my stash and have plans to add many more. YOTH is planning on releasing their next color palette - FRESH, a group of 12 crisp and earthy blues and greens. I cannot wait! Seriously! I've been bombarding Veronika's inbox for the when's and how's of getting my hands on some. But for now here's a sampling of the RAW Palette (shown below) that is out now.

YOTH Yarns Review & Giveaway on VeryShannon.com!

"Our yarns are lovingly curated by Little Brother and Big Sister, dyed in a beautiful dye house in Maine and then shipped to you from our home in Woodinville, WA. We bring you sophisticated color palettes that are as delicious to the eye as they are to knit."

And just to add icing on the cake Veronika is also a talented designer. You can see all her patterns HERE. She's getting ready to release a small collection of 4 garment pieces and 2 neckwear pieces soon! They will also be at Stitches West this upcoming spring with lots of their One of a Kinds and their completed color palettes! Drool!!!

NEW FREE PATTERN || FARBE COWL!

Who's in the mood for a new free pattern? Yay! I'm so excited to show you all the FARBE Cowl!

DOWNLOAD THE FREE FARBE COWL PATTERN

It's been getting pretty cold over here on Vancouver Island and I've been craving a new super chunky cowl! I adore color blocking and thought it would be fun to whip up a new free pattern for you all showcasing just that!

The FARBE Cowl is warm & cozy, fast to knit up and adds a great pop to your fall/winter wardrobe! It's also a great beginner pattern! You can access the FREE download for FARBE on Ravelry, in our VeryShannon Shop or via direct download HERE.

I love the combo of black and white and think it pairs so nicely with my winter wardrobe. The FARBE Cowl would look great in so many color combos! You could add some fun stripes or a 3rd color! Lots of options for you to add your special touch to your FARBE Cowl.  It's knit up in a super bulky weight yarn on large needles for a nice drape and it works up in just a few hours! Can't beat that during gift giving time!

If you're a beginner knitter don't be scared of FARBE. This is literally plain knitting but you get to learn 2 new techniques that are a great asset for any knitter's skill set - the Provisional Crochet Cast-On and the Kitchener Stitch. Both look way harder than they are and once you try them you will find yourself using them all the time. They allow you, in this pattern, to knit flat so you can customize how long/wide you'd like your cowl to be and then seam your ends easily and invisibly when you are done. The free pattern includes visual links to learn how to implement both of these techniques.

Would you like to knit the FARBE Cowl? Click below for where you can download your FREE PATTERN!

I was so excited & thankful to have my lovely friend Rebecca (of the blog Nook) to be my model for me again. You may recognize her from both the Lansbury and Mallory cowl patterns. She's one of the fastest knitters I know! She's a hard working product and sample knitter and a sweetheart! We drove down to one of my fave beaches for this photoshoot. I owe her one as it was freezing cold out that day! The sun was out and it sure was gorgeous but darn was it cold! Good thing she was wearing the FARBE Cowl!

I hope you all enjoy this new pattern and I can't wait to see "your" version of the FARBE Cowl! Bring on the color blocking! What yarn/color combos will you use for your FARBE Cowl? Don't forget to use #farbecowl on social media to tag your projects!

KNITTING || GREEN GABLES SHAWL KIT & #ANNEALONG

Have I ever told you about my love of all things Anne of Green Gables?

I adore Anne. Always have and always will. I've read (and re-read) the cherished books and watched and the movies since I was a young girl. And since then I've spent many a moment in daydreams just like Anne with an E. I admit that as a girl I used to wish at night that I would wake up with hair as read as Anne's and have a "Gilbert" in my life. I wanted to live on PEI and run through the trees dreaming the biggest dreams I could.

I've always been inspired by Anne and her character and find myself returning to the films over and over for comfort, inspiration and to remember to dream big. Especially at this time of year when the leaves are turning and we're all cozying up inside with our yarn, needles and daydreams. What better time than now to join the#annealong and pick up a Green Gables Shawl Kit (or parts of one) from Little Skein in the Big Wool and join in the fun! I'll tell you all about it below but first.....some pictures!

Swoon! The fabric, the yarn, the stitch markers......my little Anne loving soul was so happy when this kit arrived at my house!!!

// What are the Green Gables Shawl Kits?

They are wonderful kits that include some lovely goodies! Little Skein in the Big Wool has created 3 different levels of kits to fit every budget as well listing some individual items for sale in her shop too. You can find all the kits listed in the Little Skein in the Big Wool Shop HERE.

In the Green Gables Collection there are gorgeous yarn, dreamy fabric, adorable stitch markers and more! I was really pleased with the high quality of the yarn and the project bag. The yarn was scrumptious and gorgeously dyed and the bag is such a great size and impeccably sewn! Then I got to the stitch markers - can I just say I adore these? I can never have enough special stitch markers and I will treasure these ones!

Here are some of the goodies that you can receive in your Green Gables Shawl Kits!

  • A PDF copy of the Balsam Hollow shawl pattern designed by Paula Emons-Fuessle (of the Knitting Pipeline) that is inspired by Anne of Green Gables as shown below.
  • 2 gorgeous skeins of Leading Men Fiber Arts Callback Yarn. The palette of available colors evoke autumn on Prince Edward Island -- the luscious green leaves of Green Gables; the evergreens of Orchard Slope, the sloping area between Anne's home at Green Gables and Diana Barry's farm; spooky purples and dusky evening colors of the Haunted Wood; and of course, Anne's beautiful red hair. This palette of colorways is available exclusively from Little Skein in the Big Wool.
  • Beautiful project bags designed with Green Gables inspired fabric.
  • A Canadian Girl Stitch Markers that showcase that adorable silhouette of Anne that matches your fabric on your project bags.
  • One 100g skein of Anne's Story luscious MCN sock yarn created by Leading Men Fiber Arts
  • Kindred Spirits sterling silver shawl pin created by jewelry artist Leslie Wind for this kit.
  • Leaves of Autumn impatient knitter tag
  • Balsam Hollow lace helpers
  • Surprise sweet treat
  • Hardback copy of Anne of Green Gables, in the new Puffin in Bloom edition with cover art from artist Anna Bond.

// What's the #annealong?

It's an Instagram contest, readalong, watchalong, and knitalong. Best part of the fall/winter season. I think I have multiple knitting projects in progress in every room of the house right now...lol. I've been sewing and knitting and knitting and sewing. It's been fun but definitely busy. I've been binge watching Gilmore Girls, which I'm sure a ton of you have too. It's so fun to know that when I'm watching I know lots of you are too. I have a special place in my heart for this show and I'm so excited it's finally on Netflix here in Canada.

SEWING || HAWTHORNE THREADS CALIOPE BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY

Sweetheart Dress by VeryShannon using Calliope by Hawthorne Threads
Sweetheart Dress by VeryShannon using Calliope by Hawthorne Threads

Have you guys heard the news about the new fabric lines from Hawthorne Threads? I'm beyond thrilled to have been asked to join in on the launch blog tour for one of their new lines - Calliope! Isn't it gorgeous!

We couldn't resist making a Sweetheart Dress when we saw the prints in Calliope! Hearts + feathers = yes please! I was more than happy to sew up our pattern with the print Feathered Hearts in Bluebell (shown on the skirt) along with the equally adorable print "Jubilee in White" for the bodice. And well you can't see it here we used "Poetic Plumes in White" for the bodice lining and it's gosh darn pretty too!

My little girl is wearing a size 3T bodice with a size 4 skirt. Only modification I made to our Sweetheart Dress Pattern was to use the full width of the yardage for the skirt for extra twirl factor! She loooooves that! She's really into ballet and dance and I think this is her favorite dress we've made her yet! She wouldn't take it off. You can read more about the Sweetheart Dress Pattern and purchase it from our shop HERE.

My girls absolutely loved the colors and patterns in this line and so did I! I think the colors would work well for any season and match along seamlessly with other tones and neutrals. I can see these being used many times in our home for both clothing, accessories and in decor. The Calliope Panelscould easily be worked into pillows, wall hangings and more! You can really let your imagination go wild with Calliope! It works for so many things!

Plus if you keep reading below you can enter to win some too!

If you check out the Hawthorne Threads blog post for Calliope you can see all the amazing projects they have sewn up using it! I loved how many different ways they incorporated the prints! So inspiring!

You can see some of the lovely prints from Calliope below and pre-order/see them all from Hawthorne Threads HERE.
