It’s here! I’m so very excited for the brand new release of my talented friend Andrea Rangel’s newest book - Knitovation Stitch Dictionary!!!! The Knitovation Stitch Dictionary ”includes more than 150 brand new colorwork motifs to expand knitters' creative possibilities and draw them further into the world of stranded knitting with clever, quirky, and beautiful motifs including botanicals, animals, and geometric patterns.” But that’s not all it is. Andrea includes that and so much more!
Andrea has written an invaluable and trustworthy resource that both sparks a knitters imagination and demystifies knitting modern colorwork motifs. Knitovation guides you through choosing the right yarn for colorwork as well as how to incorporate the motifs into patterns “you” create. It brings a fresh joy to any knitters library and really - who can say no to feeling inspired by such a wonderful book filled with motifs to satisfy any whim!
I recently finished 2 new sweaters over the summer! While the first one (shown above) didn’t turn out as intended the new wearer (my daughter) loves it!
Helpful tip.…..always, always, always check your needle size after you start a project. Lesson learned the hard way over here lol. Insert major facepalm.
So I knit what was going to be my new fave black sweater earlier this summer. I had this heathered black wool saved in my stash for years awaiting the perfect project for it. Swatch was a go so I cast on happily and knit the whole thing.
I then bound off excitedly while on a trip visiting my friend Betsy. Tried it on and realized it was wayyyy too small!!!! Turns out I had picked up the wrong needles after swatching and my XL ended up closer to a S 🤣😂😂.
Blessing in disguise - after I of course got over all the feels - was that it fits my youngest and she loves it! Win!
I promptly cast on for my own (shown below) and love mine as well. So friends, once you cast on for a new sweater (and you’ve swatched) always, always, always double check you’re using the right needles!
💗 Anybody else done this?? Pop over to my original Instagram post to read the comments. I definitely don’t feel alone in my oopsie anymore.

I will be donating 10% of all proceeds to Food Allergy Canada in honour of those, like myself, who struggle daily coping with life threatening and severe food allergies. Living with life-threatening food allergies can be challenging and scary. As someone who has multiple types of allergies it can be extremely stressful and anxiety inducing to just navigate life with food. Every meal and snack requires careful planning, preparation, and checking of ingredients to make sure that there is no risk of contamination or cross-contamination.
It can be difficult & exhausting to enjoy some of the most basic things in life - dining out, traveling, socializing, grocery shopping, cooking…etc, the list goes on. Research and funding is the only way moving forward that can help those of us living with these type of allergies. I thank you for all of your support towards this cause.
If purchasing a pattern isn’t right for you at this time don’t worry - check out the free knitting and sewing patterns we have available HERE in our shop along with a ton of free tutorials HERE on our blog.
Thank you for all of your continued support! I hope you’ll love making and wearing Lately as much as I do.

DONATION FOR FLOOD RELIEF
As many of you know I live in British Columbia, Canada which has recently been hit hard by severe flooding due to climate change. These "atmospheric rivers" caused immense damage to our province and communities have been hit very hard - a large amount of people have been evacuated from their homes and some may never be able to return. Landslides and erosion due to excessive water has severely damaged fuel and food supply lines which is amplifying the tragedy for many people province wide.
This year I will be donating 15% of all sale proceeds (equally dispersed) to the following charities - Food Banks BCand United Way BC. These charities will be providing aid with food, shelter, mental health, and the rebuilding of our province.
I thank you for your support of my business each year but also for your help towards donating to those in need in my province here in Canada - especially during a time that we are all struggling with the effects of so many health and climate crises. I sincerely appreciate every dollar you spend
Use code “HOLIDAY25” to save 25% off at all 3 places. Sale is valid until 12/11/21, midnight, PST.

We could all use something to soothe us these days. Driftlines is a perfectly relaxing – but definitely not boring – knit that features a fun design. The hybrid construction of Driftlines makes it a unique pattern, combining both a shawl and a cowl in one. When worn, it looks like a triangular shawl from the front and a cowl from the back. It's so simple to wear - just slip it on with no fuss of tucking in your shawl ends or bulk in the back neck. Driftlines makes for a quick project that is both interesting and meditative, creating a great distraction when you just want to unwind. Grab your favorite worsted weight wool, then settle in to knit one (or a few) up. So go on…de-stress and lose yourself into those lovely textured stitches.
Hello friends! I’m soooo excited to say my newest pattern - Driftlines - is here! It’s been a while (too long actually) and it feels both wonderful and emotional to introduce this lovely to the world! This pattern is near and dear to my heart for too many reasons to type. I really needed a knit on my needles that was both interesting and meditative, and that was an accessory that filled a void in my wardrobe. It was also just what my anxious mind needed.
To celebrate the release of DRIFTLINES use code “driftlines10” to save 10% OFF your purchase in my Online Shop, Ravelry and Etsy. Coupon valid until 09/30/2021, midnight, PST.
You all know I LOVE shawls. Any kind and any shape. But the ones I reach for a lot are triangular shawls. I like wearing them with the point in front and the ends wrapped around my neck. But sometimes you don’t want all that bulk in the back neck and you just want to just throw it on/off without fiddling with the ends. Thus the hybrid cowl/shawl. Can we say yes please?! It looks like you have on a triangular shawl but it’s a cowl! In love!!!!!
Want to see Driftlines in action? Pop by our Instagram page to see it being taken on/off HERE.
DESIGN
I’ve been wanting to play around with the construction and shaping for Driftlines for a while. I had a lot of fun designing it and I so hope you’ll enjoy making it. The textures on Driftlines are so cozy and lovely! That pretty slipped border stitch paired with the raised slip stitches and garter in the main body just make my heart happy. I got inspired for the stitch patterns and design after a hike with my husband and fur baby on a trail near where we live. We ended up on the beach when the tide was out and the driftlines in the sand never left my head. After I got home I grabbed my sketchbook and Driftlines was born.
The pattern itself is suited to neutrals/brights, tonals & slightly variegated yarns! As long as you don’t lose the texture you’re good to go! And guess what else - it’s a very quick knit! Yaaaas! Perfect for gift making or treating yourself - I’ve already made 2 and am about to cast on a 3rd - hmmmm…should we have a KAL???! Driftlines only takes 466 yds/426 m of worsted weight wool too so it’s a great stash buster or a project for trying out a new to you yarn!
THANK YOU
It's been years since I released a pattern and I find myself emotional as I type this to you friends. I keep trying to write and rewrite all the thoughts that are in my mind and heart but it's way too much to pop into this wee newsletter today. But I do want you all to know how much your support these last few years has meant to me. I've missed you all so much and putting this pattern out into to the world feels like getting to hug a much loved friend that I haven't seen in way too long. I truly hope knitting Driftlines brings you both joy & a sense of calm and that you also enjoy wearing it as much as you did knitting it.
I also want to thank all my fabulous testers for making the process of getting this pattern out into the world that much more fun - a few were on there 2nd and 3rd versions! And getting to work with my fave photographer Koyahni again - photoshoots just make me so darn happy - they are one of my favourite things to do in life. Seeing my design story come to life is just the best and our sweet model Alyssa was a joy to work with.
