Who's in the mood for a new free pattern? Yay! I'm so excited to show you all the FARBE Cowl!
DOWNLOAD THE FREE FARBE COWL PATTERN
It's been getting pretty cold over here on Vancouver Island and I've been craving a new super chunky cowl! I adore color blocking and thought it would be fun to whip up a new free pattern for you all showcasing just that!
The FARBE Cowl is warm & cozy, fast to knit up and adds a great pop to your fall/winter wardrobe! It's also a great beginner pattern! You can access the FREE download for FARBE on Ravelry, in our VeryShannon Shop or via direct download HERE.
I love the combo of black and white and think it pairs so nicely with my winter wardrobe. The FARBE Cowl would look great in so many color combos! You could add some fun stripes or a 3rd color! Lots of options for you to add your special touch to your FARBE Cowl. It's knit up in a super bulky weight yarn on large needles for a nice drape and it works up in just a few hours! Can't beat that during gift giving time!
If you're a beginner knitter don't be scared of FARBE. This is literally plain knitting but you get to learn 2 new techniques that are a great asset for any knitter's skill set - the Provisional Crochet Cast-On and the Kitchener Stitch. Both look way harder than they are and once you try them you will find yourself using them all the time. They allow you, in this pattern, to knit flat so you can customize how long/wide you'd like your cowl to be and then seam your ends easily and invisibly when you are done. The free pattern includes visual links to learn how to implement both of these techniques.

I was so excited & thankful to have my lovely friend Rebecca (of the blog Nook) to be my model for me again. You may recognize her from both the Lansbury and Mallory cowl patterns. She's one of the fastest knitters I know! She's a hard working product and sample knitter and a sweetheart! We drove down to one of my fave beaches for this photoshoot. I owe her one as it was freezing cold out that day! The sun was out and it sure was gorgeous but darn was it cold! Good thing she was wearing the FARBE Cowl!
I hope you all enjoy this new pattern and I can't wait to see "your" version of the FARBE Cowl! Bring on the color blocking! What yarn/color combos will you use for your FARBE Cowl? Don't forget to use #farbecowl on social media to tag your projects!
KNITTING || GREEN GABLES SHAWL KIT & #ANNEALONG
Have I ever told you about my love of all things Anne of Green Gables?
I adore Anne. Always have and always will. I've read (and re-read) the cherished books and watched and the movies since I was a young girl. And since then I've spent many a moment in daydreams just like Anne with an E. I admit that as a girl I used to wish at night that I would wake up with hair as read as Anne's and have a "Gilbert" in my life. I wanted to live on PEI and run through the trees dreaming the biggest dreams I could.
I've always been inspired by Anne and her character and find myself returning to the films over and over for comfort, inspiration and to remember to dream big. Especially at this time of year when the leaves are turning and we're all cozying up inside with our yarn, needles and daydreams. What better time than now to join the#annealong and pick up a Green Gables Shawl Kit (or parts of one) from Little Skein in the Big Wool and join in the fun! I'll tell you all about it below but first.....some pictures!
Swoon! The fabric, the yarn, the stitch markers......my little Anne loving soul was so happy when this kit arrived at my house!!!
// What are the Green Gables Shawl Kits?
They are wonderful kits that include some lovely goodies! Little Skein in the Big Wool has created 3 different levels of kits to fit every budget as well listing some individual items for sale in her shop too. You can find all the kits listed in the Little Skein in the Big Wool Shop HERE.
In the Green Gables Collection there are gorgeous yarn, dreamy fabric, adorable stitch markers and more! I was really pleased with the high quality of the yarn and the project bag. The yarn was scrumptious and gorgeously dyed and the bag is such a great size and impeccably sewn! Then I got to the stitch markers - can I just say I adore these? I can never have enough special stitch markers and I will treasure these ones!
Here are some of the goodies that you can receive in your Green Gables Shawl Kits!

The palette of available colors evoke autumn on Prince Edward Island -- the luscious green leaves of Green Gables; the evergreens of Orchard Slope, the sloping area between Anne's home at Green Gables and Diana Barry's farm; spooky purples and dusky evening colors of the Haunted Wood; and of course, Anne's beautiful red hair. This palette of colorways is available exclusively from Little Skein in the Big Wool.

- A Canadian Girl Stitch Markers that showcase that adorable silhouette of Anne that matches your fabric on your project bags.

This is the first hat my husband and both kids have ever asked me for. It's a Christmas miracle! Now if you are a knitter you will understand how much this means. I was so excited that I have at least 2-3 more KEATON's ready to go over holiday break! I think I may need to get a family portrait with us all wearing them...that would be so dorky but also hilariously cool...lmao.

NEW PATTERN || KEATON HAT PATTERN!!
I've found my new favorite hat. You know the one that you want to make in 10 colors and actually find yourself hoping the weather stays cold so you can wear all the time? That's the one.
The KEATON hat is here! And guess what - this bulky weight ribbed hat comes in sizes Baby, Toddler, Child/Teen, Adult S, Adult M & Adult L!!! Wahoo! Now you can make one for all your friends and family and just in time for xmas cause this hat is quick, fast and super easy! Takes 120yds or less (including pom pom) and knits up with so much squish I have it on word that one of my testers even slept in hers!!!
I've been thinking for a while now that my Mallory Cowl needed a hat to go with it. I have so many sewers wanting to learn how to knit and other new knitters needing a great easy hat to make that I just knew KEATON would be a great go to pattern for them.
The pattern is written in an easy format, with technique options, a great cast on to learn, links to helpful videos and more! I mean really....who doesn't love a pom pom right? And a pom pom on a slouch hat is a win win in my book. I suck at making pom pom's but I still love 'em.
I really want new knitters to feel brave and embrace learning new techniques. Don't be scared - just jump in! That's how we all learn and I'm still learning too! It's fun, I promise and I'll be there cheering you on! Plus if you are a more experienced knitter this is a great hat to whip up for kicks and style. You can easily make it more/less slouchy, mix up colors, stripe it...and more!
I used Quince and Co.'s Puffin (shown in Clay) for the one without the pom pom (adult sized) (you all know how much I adore Quince and Co!) and the others were both in Patons Classic Wool Roving (shown in Taupe and Plum) which has the exact same gauge for me! Wahoo! You seriously can't go wrong with either of these yarns! Both are great bulky, super soft and squishy yarns! But don't worry, KEATON looks great on other types of bulky too! My testers tried a variety of bulky yarns and they all looked just as good!
THE KEATON PATTERN FEATURES THE FOLLOWING:
:: clear and easy to understand instructions
:: bright & colorful photography
:: 6 sizes - Baby, Toddler, Child/Teen, Adult S, Adult M & Adult L
:: 2 page color PDF pattern
:: a great knitting experience
KEATON is available to purchase at the following:
But wait...aren't my models just so darn purdy? I owe them so bad. It was freeeeeeeeezing cold when we did our photo shoot and Carly of the blog "Style Snapshot" and Kate of "Victoria's Wardrobe" so kindly agreed to come out and brave the weather for me. These 2 stylish gals are friends and fashion bloggers in the city I live. I loooovvve the KEATON on them. I asked them to wear what they would wear with the hat and I love how the overall look turned out! So fun! Plus I have to admit I want to steal Carly's boots and Kate's jacket....heck I want both their outfits. I owe ya one ladies - you're both stunning! Be sure to check out both of their blogs for upcoming posts on what they wore with the hats.
Want to see the smaller version? You can see pics of the child version here. You can also see more pics on www.veryshannon.com. I've already gotten a request from the girls for 2 more and 1 for the hubby and another for me. I see lots and lots of ribbing in my future. Good thing they are fast to make :)
I hope you enjoy the pattern and I cannot wait to see some KEATON's pop up! If you make one please share your pics with me! I would love to see them! Happy knitting and thank you for all of your support! xoxoxo
NEW PATTERN || DREIECKE HAT
I've got a thing for triangles at the moment. They have seemed to occupy my mind since my zig zag quilt. In the fall i started sketching a hat that had triangles on it. But not any kind of triangle...some that resembled hst's. Then the DREIECKE hat was born. I really love that I am inspired by sewing in my knitting and inspired by my knitting in my sewing. They seem to go hand in hand like that...must be the gemini in me.

PATTERN || HANNAH HAT PATTERN RELEASE
To say I love this hat is an understatement. Since the night I whipped the Hannah Hat up it's been on my head non-stop. Made from the scrumptious and lovely malabrigo rasta this hat is warm, cozy and sooooo soft and chunky! It's a dream to knit and wear. Living in a coastal city we are always getting wind storms and this hat keeps my ears and head warm while still being cute and stylish.
This yarn has a special spot in my heart. Gifted to me last xmas from my dear friend Hannah (ummashin) the color is one of my faves. I fell so in love with this yarn that I have held on to it for a full year until i found the perfect project for it. So to say a lovely thank you to one of the most lovely people i have met online i have named this hat for hannah. I hope she likes it as much as I do.
Quick and easy hannah knits up in one night. a few hours and bam - you've got yourself a lovely new accessory. Knit on a US12/9mm it works up fast and it's simple to customize to your desired slouch/length. and helloo....that pom pom just melts my heart. Love it. Pom poms and I have had a love/hate relationship because I can never seem to make a good one but I have broken my curse (I like to use my pal jane richmond's pom pom tutorial).
Making pom poms with rasta is actually fun! I love the added touch of fun the pom pom adds to this hat. I also love the coziness the 2x2 rib that goes to mid crown adds to keep your ears warm. That extra bit of depth just feels so right on the part of my head that gets the coldest while waiting for school pick up.
Best part is hannah only takes (1) skein of malabrigo rasta! Plus the pattern is only $1.99!!! That's it - time to treat yourself! Just remember that if you alter the pattern or choose to NOT unravel your gauge swatch you will need another skein to be able to finish the hat and the pom pom. I seriously used every last inch of my skein. There were no leftovers..not even one centimeter..lol.
THE HANNAH HAT PATTERN FEATURES:
:: clear and easy to understand step by step instructions
:: bright & colorful photography
:: 2 page color PDF pattern
:: a great knitting experience
The Hannah Hat Pattern is available for purchase at the following:
If you make a hannah please let me know and share your pics! I love to see the projects you guys make. Feel free to add any pics to our flickr groupand also our ravelry group.
I hope you enjoy hannah as much as I do! It's a great beginner pattern to practice knitting in the round and making pom poms :) Happy knitting from my home to yours!
p.s. To all you sewers...don't worry, I promise there will be sewing goodies coming soon too!
CAMILLE HOODED COWL || NEW PATTERN!!
It gets pretty darn windy where I live. Wind storms blow regularly and I swear it chills me to the bone. It also rains a lot so being a coastal gal we dress in layers and we love our accessories. Since my oldest started kindergarten I do a lot of standing around outside for pick up and drop off. Most of the time I curse the fact that I don't have a hood. Sometimes I like to wear my fave leather jacket with a yummy cowl and then wouldn't you know it - bye bye sun, hello rain. There goes mommas hair.
Being a bit of a scattered mom at times (aren't we all here and there) I never seem to have an umbrella and I find myself longing for a hooded cowl. It would solve all my issues. Be quick to make, suit many different weights of yarn, be warm, squishy and look great with all my layers :) Best of all it keeps my hair in tact and my ears toasty. Bring it on mother nature.
Knit up in delicious madelinetosh chunky yarn in colorway tern (love) on a big needle this is a quick 1-2 kind of evening project.
camille is a cozy & oh so comfy hooded double wrap infinity cowl knit in a lofty oblique rib pattern with warm chunky yarn. It also would look equally lovely in a super bulky, aran, or worsted. Quick to knit, with a fun construction this cowl involves no picking up of stitches. Camille is knit in the round and knit flat with a simple seamed hood.
The Camille Cowl Pattern Features:
:: clear and easy to understand step by step instructions
:: bright & colorful photography
:: 2 page color PDF pattern
:: digitally drafted diagram
:: a great knitting experience
One of my fave features of camille is that you never get cold back neck syndrome. With the hood feature and the double wrap cowl your neck is always fully covered no matter if the hood is down or up. I always get that draft between my cowl and top and this cowl keeps me nice and toasty.
The pattern is easy to memorize and is a fun project to pop in your purse and carry with you. It also makes a wonderful gift because it's a) awesome b) fast to knit up and c) a great project to splurge on some dream yarn without breaking the bank. I can see many more camille's in my future.
Named after my sister Camille who loves a hood as much as i do (which is a lot). We just love to curl up all cozy with a nice warm hood. Camille is also a good project for an experienced beginner who is looking to take on a project that's more difficult than a basic cowl but also still fun for an advanced knitter to whip up with some dream yarn.
I hope you all enjoy making and wearing this fun, squishy cowl as much as i do. happy knitting from my home to yours!
I'd love to hear your thoughts! What do you think? Have you worn a hooded cowl before? Let's chat yummy knits ladies!
p.s. Thanks in advance to the lovely jane richmond for modeling for me! luv ya hun!
